CEP 841 Classroom Management in the Inclusive Classroom -T. MARIAGE
This course focused on inclusion issues for special needs students. A good portion of the class was spent learning conflict resolution techniques and methods for maintaining a leadership role in the classroom. The course objectives are listed below.
- To allow each participant the opportunity to conduct their own self-assessment about their beliefs about learners and learning, their existing management practices, and their vision for what an inclusive learning community would/could look like in their own setting.
- Understand the central role of leadership in the classroom.
- Understand the critical features of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
- Understand how to successfully complete a Functional Behavioral Assessment
- Understand the legal and practical aspects of implementing Behavior Intervention Plans
- Understand and be able to articulate a number of key "functions" of behavior
- Develop a comprehensive data-base of interventions and strategies for classroom management and behavioral intervention
- Develop habits of behavior for thinking about instructional accommodations as one plans lessons to meet the diverse learning, behavior, and social needs of students
- Develop a disposition for understanding management as prevention and discipline as teaching new skills
